FlySalah ("the app") calculates Islamic prayer times and Qibla direction for commercial flights. This policy explains exactly what the app does — and does not do — with your information. In short: FlySalah has no accounts, does not know who you are, and calculates every prayer time on your device. It sends anonymous counts of which features are used, which you can turn off in Settings.
- No account, no sign-in, no email required.
- No advertising, no ad identifiers, no profiling, no session recording.
- Anonymous usage counts help us improve the app. You can turn them off: Settings → Privacy → Usage analytics.
- Your journeys never reach our servers. Not the airports, not the flight numbers, not the dates, not your location. They go only where you send them: to your own watch, or in a trip link you choose to share.
- Your journey and settings are stored only on your device.
- Prayer times are always calculated on your device, and the app works fully offline.
- Flight lookup runs only if you ask it to. It sends that flight number and date, and nothing else.
Information we collect
No personal information. FlySalah has no user accounts and no servers of its own. We do not collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, photos, or location, and we never sell or share anything about you.
We do collect anonymous usage counts so we can tell which parts of the app people actually use — for example, that the app was opened, that a flight was looked up, that a journey reached two flights, or that the calendar export was used. These carry no identifier that we can trace to a person.
What is never included, by design: your journeys, the airports you fly between, flight numbers, travel dates, your location or GPS position, and the contents of any screen. Where a journey is relevant, only the number of flights in it is counted — never where they go. This is enforced in the app's source code by a fixed list of permitted events; there is no way for the app to send anything outside it.
We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA or Android Advertising ID), we do not record your screen, and we do not build a profile of you. Location lookup from your IP address is switched off.
Turning analytics off
Open Settings → Privacy and turn off Usage analytics. Nothing further is sent from that moment, and anything still waiting to be sent is discarded. Every other part of the app continues to work exactly as before.
Analytics data is processed by PostHog on our behalf and stored on their European Union infrastructure. We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app, balanced against the deliberately minimal and non-identifying nature of what is collected, and you can withdraw at any time using the switch above.
Information stored on your device
The flight legs you enter (airport codes and departure/arrival times), any journeys you save, and your preferences (calculation method, Asr madhab, language, which prayers send reminders, and whether GPS refinement is enabled) are saved locally on your device so the app remembers them between launches. This data is never sent to us, and is removed if you delete the app. It leaves your device only if you send it to your own watch or share a trip, as described above.
Your watch, and sharing a trip
Apple Watch and Wear OS. If you have a paired watch, the app sends your upcoming plan to it: prayer times and, if you have unlocked it, sleep times, plus the route codes of your flights. This goes from your phone to your watch over the watch connection (Apple's Watch Connectivity or Google's Wear OS Data Layer). It does not pass through our servers, and we never receive it.
Share a trip. When you choose to share a trip, the link contains only the flights — airport codes, times and an optional trip name — inside the link itself. Nothing is uploaded to us or anyone else to make it work. Anyone who has the link can see those flights, so share it only with people you want to see them. Opening or sending a link is done by your phone and the app you share it with, not by FlySalah making a network request.
Flight lookup
If you choose to look up a flight by its number, the app sends only the flight number and the date you entered to AeroDataBox (via RapidAPI), which returns the route and schedule so the app can fill in that leg for you.
That request contains no location, no journey, no device identifier, and no account — there is nothing in it that identifies you. It is sent only when you tap to look up a flight: never on launch, never in the background, and never automatically. Nothing about a prayer time is ever calculated from it — the lookup only fills in the same airports and times you could type by hand, after which the app's own on-device solver does the rest.
Apart from this, the anonymous usage counts described above and the update check described below, the app makes no network requests. (Syncing to your watch is device-to-device, and a share link is just text you send yourself; neither is a request the app makes to a server.) Prayer times, the Qibla, the widget and the duas never require a network connection — all of it works in airplane mode, which is the situation the app was built for. If you turn analytics off and never use flight lookup, the only request FlySalah makes is the update check below.
App updates
When you open the app, it checks u.expo.dev (Expo) for a newer version of the app's code. That request contains only the app's runtime version, its update channel, your platform (iOS or Android) and the id of the update the app is currently running. It contains no journey, no account and no personal information. As with any internet request, the server can see your IP address. If you are offline, the check is skipped and the app works as installed.
Permissions the app may request
| Permission | When | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Notifications | If you enable reminders | A local alert shortly before each prayer in your journey. Scheduled on your device; nothing is sent to any external service. They work in airplane mode. |
| Camera | Only if you scan a boarding pass | The barcode on your pass is decoded entirely on your device to fill in your flights. No photo or video is recorded, stored, or transmitted. The camera is used for nothing else. |
| Location | Only if you turn on "Use GPS in flight" in Settings — off by default | Used on your device to sharpen the Qibla direction and show where you are right now. Your location is never transmitted, never stored beyond the current session, and never shared. Turning it off stops it entirely; the app then uses your flight plan alone. |
| Calendar | Only if you tap "Export to Calendar" | Adds your prayer times as events in a dedicated "FlySalah" calendar on your device (called "SkySalah" in versions before the rename). To do that it reads the list of calendars on your device, so it can find or create the FlySalah one. It does not read the events in your calendars, and it writes only the events it creates. Nothing from your calendar is collected or transmitted. |
Third-party services
- OurAirports — the airport dataset is public domain (CC0) and ships inside the app. No request is made to OurAirports at any time.
- AeroDataBox (via RapidAPI) — contacted only when you look up a flight by number, and sent only that flight number and date, as described above.
- PostHog — receives the anonymous usage counts described above, on EU infrastructure, unless you have turned analytics off. It receives no journey, no location, and no identifier we can trace to you.
FlySalah contains no advertising networks, no attribution services, and no session recording or crash-reporting SDKs.
Requesting deletion of your data
This section applies to FlySalah (developer: Mohammad Uzair Khan). FlySalah has no accounts, so there is no profile to close — but the anonymous usage counts described above can be deleted on request.
To stop any further collection, immediately:
- Open FlySalah.
- Go to Settings → Privacy.
- Turn off Usage analytics.
Nothing further is sent from that moment, and anything queued on the device but not yet sent is discarded.
To request deletion of counts already collected:
- Email [email protected] with the subject "Delete my FlySalah analytics data". Requests with the old subject, "Delete my SkySalah analytics data", are still honoured.
- Because the data carries no name, email or account, tell us the approximate date and time you last used the app and the platform (iOS or Android) so the records can be located.
- We will delete the matching records and confirm by reply, normally within 30 days.
What is deleted: the anonymous usage counts held by PostHog on our behalf, and the random per-install identifier they are stored against. What is kept: nothing else is held about you — there are no accounts, no profiles and no backups of personal data, because none is collected. Purchase records are held by Apple and Google, not by us; those are governed by the app stores' own policies and cannot be deleted by us.
Retention: analytics records are retained for at most 12 months and then deleted automatically. Everything else — your journeys, settings and saved trips — lives only on your device, and uninstalling the app removes all of it immediately.
Children's privacy
FlySalah is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The anonymous usage counts described above contain nothing that identifies a person of any age.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date. If the app ever begins collecting a new category of data, this policy will say so before that version ships. Changed on 3 September 2026: earlier versions of FlySalah contained no analytics at all. That release added anonymous usage counts, on by default, with the opt-out described above. Changed on 9 October 2026: the app was renamed from SkySalah to FlySalah. Nothing about how your data is handled changed.
